Proficy SOA

An Industrial Service Oriented Architecture Use ProficySOA to solve the challenge and integrate your ERP, CRM, APS, MES, QA, LIMS, SPC and Manufacturing systems on a single platform regardless of what vendor’s solution you have previously adopted. This Industrial SOA software provides the real-time platform to achieve a centralised production configuration and management environment – including messaging backbone with plant-wide data asset and activity models. |
Solve production challenges with composite applications that leverage your existing systems through an industrial SOA data and services repository.
Your business faces constant change – ranging from new product lines and fluctuating customer demand to acquisitions and evolving regulations. Improve your ability to respond to change, now and over the coming years, by properly architecting your production infrastructure with an industrial Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Based on industry standards, Proficy SOA offers the foundation for responding to changing business needs using your existing production systems.
With Proficy SOA, you can consolidate and simplify systems, lower operating costs, respond more quickly to changing needs, and simplify training requirements. Empower production domain experts to create solutions, without demands on IT. Additionally, replicate systems faster across your business – lowering implementation costs, decreasing risk and speeding time to market.
SOA (Services Orientated Architecture) is a flexible set of design principles used during the phases of system development and integration. A deployed SOA-based architecture will provide a loosely-integrated suite of services (rather than software packages linked together) that can be used within multiple business domains.

What this means is that instead of creating multiple interfaces between your systems, simply create one interface to the ProficySOA Services Bus. All systems interfaced with the SOA Services Bus can now seamlessly interact with each other. Furthermore you can add Proficy Workflow that acts as an execution engine to all systems integrated with the SOA Services Bus, regardless of the vendor, offering work instructions and SOPs, corrective action, Alarm Responses, middleware data transfers, HACCP monitoring. |
The new Proficy platform delivers the potential for better-integrated manufacturing solutions across the breadth of manufacturing operations. All discrete and batch manufacturers that are considering a modern industrial software platform for their manufacturing needs should take a look at the Proficy Suit. Those with a clear SOA-based strategy and that feel their manufacturing information should be managed below the level of the ERP system will find the clean approach taken by GE Intelligent Platforms compelling.

Use ProficySOA to solve the your challenge and integrate your ERP, CRM, APS, MES, QA, LIMS, SPC and Manufacturing systems on a single platform regardless of what vendor’s solution you have previously adopted.
| What cost is ProficySOA ? |
Nil - ProficySOA is a free deliverable that will be integrated into all future releases of GE-IP software. Adoption is optional as all products will continue to operate as they do today, however now you may choose to implement S95/88 standards and gain the benefits from it. ** IIC planning and integration support/assistance available on request. ** |
| Why is GE-IP using it ? |
To improve module/product connectivity whilst reducing the needs for specific interfaces. ProficySOA reduces the effort required when new products, or product versions are released. IE when releasing a new version of Historian only 1 interface is required SOA. Prior to SOA an interface was required for iFIX, Batch, OPC, Plant Applications, Cimplicity. |
| Must we use it ? |
No - Although it will offer obvious benefits to Engineering and IT departments. |
| Is SOA new ? |
No SOA has been used by IT and ERP developers for many years. A good example is web services that utilise a central hub and connect too many different data-sources (Oracle, IBM, SQL, Access, etc). The clients have access to all of them regardless of the vendor, or application. GE-IP simply created an Industrial SOA platform (iSOA) we call ProficySOA. |
| Can we create our own connections using ProficySOA ? |
Yes via dot net. A solution Providers Toolkit is supplied with ProficySOA containing all the tools you require. If you are capable with .NET you can easily create your own Service Provider to specific and legacy applications. Furthermore as Service Providers are essentially templates you can continue to develop, or add a new Service Provider in the future should additional functionality become required. |
| How does the virtual models work ? |
A plant model is created based on your actual infrastructure and assets. Classes are then created (Groups of Tags and Properties) that are assigned to the assets. The Classes/Properties are then bound to specific Tags/Points within your data-sources. (SCADA Servers, OPC Servers, Historian, SQL Server, Oracle, Lab systems, Maintenance, etc). SOA clients can then connect to the model and obtain the data as required without knowing the I/O location, Server details, etc. Simply choose the Asset and select from the real time Tags, Historian Points, Alarm and Event data as required. |
| Will SAP Connect to ProficySOA ? |
Yes via the Proficy Open Connector module. This module supports many different ERP types. |
| If we add additional functionality can a .Net Service Provider be easily changed. ? |
Yes via the standard tool kit. Or you can deploy another Service provider to the same data-source. |
| Can maintenance system be integrated with ProficySOA ? |
Yes - This is an essential part of any organisations streamlining strategy. Using Proficy Workflow contextual messages can also be included with the maintenance record. |
| Can you link different systems together once added to the specific model ? |
Yes. Proficy Workflow (Work Process Management) acts as an execution engine to the included models. It can also act as middleware, perform tasks like Alarm Response Management, control SOPs, HACCP, create Change Control options and much more. |
